The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.

[IndieGames.com: The Weblog co-editor Tim W. rounds up the week's top free-to-download and commercial indie games from his sister 'state of indie' weblog.] This week on 'Best Of Indie Games', we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week. The delights in this edition include a trio of freeware platformers, an Xbox Live Indie Games release, an Experimental Gameplay Project submission, and a Flash game that is heavily inspired by Team Ico's Shadow of the Colossus. Here's the highlights from the last seven days: Game Pick: 'Shellbreak' (Nathan McCoy, browser) "Shellbreak is a browser-based vertical shooter created by Nathan McCoy for the Experimental Gameplay Project game development jam, where players have two minutes to destroy multi-coloured orbs and score as many points as they can. You can only zap red orbs at first, but by filling up the gauge on the right side of the screen you'll eventually be allowed to break orbs of other colours as well." Game Pick: 'Heir' (Antony Lavelle, browser) "In Heir you play as an unnamed stranger who has sworn to defeat the three giant Golems for the king of the land. This boils down to a lot of jumping and scaling up the sides of these behemoths, as you try to make your way to the top and strike at their weak spots (à la Shadow of the Colossus)." Game Pick: 'Mamotte Knight' (Ancient, commercial indie - demo available) "Mamotte Knight (also known as Protect Me Knight) is basically a tower defense game with RPG elements, where you have to protect a princess from hordes of enemies who will try their utmost best to get to her. Every new level starts off with some basic fences and barricades that surround our princess, and you can also build new structures or even upgrade existing ones if you have stored enough magic points to create them." Game Pick: 'Baggage' (Daray Manning, freeware) "Baggage is a short 2D platformer that features an unnamed character who is late for a flight, with your task being to collect all of your luggages to place at the baggage claim before the plane takes off. There are only ten levels to play in total, although the game will require some patience and perseverance to beat." Game Pick: 'Composition Piece' (Theta Games, freeware) "Composition Piece is a platform game that tells the story of a composer who is writing a piece of music for a girl he is infatuated with. While in the process of writing you're somehow transported to a world inhabited by famous composers and talking metronomes, but worse still are the spikes and walls that try to prevent you from completing the song in one piece." Game Pick: 'Searchlight' (Alpha Secret Base, freeware) "Searchlight is a platform/puzzle game in which you play as a sort of modern day Robin Hood freeing the world's treasures from the powers that be. The titular searchlights are an instant fail if you get caught by them, and they add a nice sense of frenzy to what could otherwise be a much slower puzzle game."
