[IndieGames.com: The Weblog co-editor Tim W. rounds up some of the week's top free and commercial indie games from the last seven days on his sister 'state of indie' weblog.] This week on 'Best Of Indie Games', we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week. The goodies in this edition include a mouse-controlled scrolling shooter in the style of the Salamander arcade game, a couple of challenging 2D platformers, and a procedural-generated climbing game that focuses on conquering tall mountains. Here's the highlights from the last seven days: Game Pick: 'Frogatto' (Lost Pixels, freeware) "Frogatto is a freeware platformer which stars a frog that can swallow and spit out enemies as projectiles. The game features six distinct areas with thirty levels split between them, and you can use magical pedestals to teleport yourself to the start of any location that you have previously explored." Game Pick: 'One Step Back' (Daniel Yaroslavski, browser) "One Step Back is a 2D platformer that deals with the consequences of time travelling, where players have to guide their on-screen character to the exit without running into their other selves. For every few steps you take, another version of yourself will appear from the entrance of the level and retread the same path that you walked on just seconds ago." Game Pick: 'Nyalamander' (Ijiwaru Neko Cat, browser) "Nyalamander is a mouse-controlled scrolling shooter in the style of Salamander and the Gradius series, featuring six levels to beat and a handful of power-up items for the player to collect. Upgrades are in effect the second you pick them up, and when your ship is destroyed you can still save the options if you gather them before they disappear into space." Game Pick: 'Jihyo Attack' (Ikiki, freeware) "Jihyo Attack (Written Resignation Attack) is a platform game created by the developer of Teppoman 2, where you play as a rather angry employee who just wants to quit his job. Armed with a large hammer in his hands, our salaryman will have a chance to smash everything up at the workplace before handing in his letter of resignation to the boss." Game Pick: 'Mt.' (Luke O'Connor, browser) "Mt. (pronounced mountain) is a procedural-generated climbing game in which players have to scale difficult walls and overhangs to get to a top of a mountain, where a red flag awaits the conqueror who survived against all odds. Technically there's no danger that'll end your climb, but you do lose significant progress when a fall sends you a long way back."
