[IndieGames.com: The Weblog co-editor Tim W. rounds up the week's top titles from his sister 'state of indie' weblog.] This week on 'Best Of Indie Games', we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week. The goodies in this edition include a shmup in which you play as a boss ship, a new storytelling tool by Jason Rohrer, a puzzle game that features an immortal hero, a couple of Olympics-themed competition entries from the East, and an action-oriented platformer that can be played either solo or co-operatively with a friend. Here's the highlights from the last seven days: Game Pick: 'Boss Rush' (Paper Dino Software, browser) "Boss Rush turns the tables on regular shmups, by putting you in control of the enemy. A huge, over-powered earth-shattering enemy. Surprisingly, the 'good guy' does a really spectacular job of dodging everything you throw at him and destroying your ship bit by bit. Unfortunately for him, as he knocks parts of your ship off, you lose weapons... and gain even more powerful blasters." Game Pick: 'Sleep Is Death' (Jason Rohrer, commercial indie - demo available) "Sleep Is Death is essentially a storybook weaver in which two players develop stories together. Here's the catch - one player is telling the story, while the other player is IN the story." Game Pick: 'Hyper Morinpic' (Tansio, browser) "Hyper Morinpic is a physics-based stacking game which calls for the player to launch athletes into the air and land them on the top of the bowl for points. Nothing spectacular really, but it will definitely elicit a laugh or two if you enjoy these sort of distractions." Game Pick: 'Kill Me' (Klaus K. Kristensen, browser) "Kill Me is a clever little puzzle platformer that tells the story of a superhero named Invincible Man, tired of doing noble deeds for mankind and is desperately seeking for an end to his life. The problem is that our hero cannot die, and even after a fatal fall or death by spikes he will just be resurrected and reappear again at the starting point of a level." Game Pick: 'Action Fist' (Beau Blyth, freeware) "Action Fist is a 2D action platformer that features both single and two-player co-op gameplay modes, multiple weapon power-ups, frequent checkpoint locations, and the usual array of boss fights that require some thought and strategy to defeat. Surely the pick of the week, so don't miss out on this gem folks."
