German online game publisher Bigpoint will incorporate support for stereoscopic 3D graphics into select releases, including two free-to-play browser titles launching in Spring 2011. Gamers won't need to download and install any additional software to see the 3D effects in the titles, though they will need a collection of hardware to take advantage of the technology, including a 3D monitor, a 3D graphic card, and 3D LC shutter glasses. The two announced browser games that will feature stereoscopic 3D support are racing adventure ToonRacer and post-apocalyptical action game Ruined Online (pictured), both of which were developed internally by Bigpoint's San Francisco and Hamburg studios. ToonRacer and Ruined Online are built with the Unity3D engine, as well as Bigpoint's in-house Nebula engine. The two titles will join a catalog of Bigpoint browser releases that already reach over 150 million registered users in more than 25 languages. "3D is the future of the entire entertainment industry," says Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz. "We want to be a part of this trend and make it possible for our users to experience intense gameplay directly in their browser." Hubertz continues "3D graphics are a major highlight, especially in action-packed games such as Ruined Online and ToonRacer, which both have highly detailed browser-based game worlds."
