A day after its announcement that Europe would be receiving pink DS Lites in October, Nintendo of America has revealed that it will be bringing both pink and black DS models to North America on September 13th for a recommended retail price of $129.99. The new colors - known as Coral Pink and Onyx Black - will join the Polar White model that has thus far been the only DS Lite color option available in the US. The wider North American release of the Onyx Black model is also notable, since it has so far been exclusive to European territories. Nintendo also used the announcement to reveal that its New Super Mario Bros. game has hit a million sales in the 12 weeks since its North American release - apparently "an average of roughly eight games sold each minute continuously since launch, making it the fastest-selling DS title in the United States for a 12-week period", and that DS software and hardware sales were up 300 percent in the month of July. It also reiterated other major statistics for DS titles, with Animal Crossing: Wild World selling more than 800,000 units in North America, and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day and Big Brain Academy continuing to impress in worldwide sales, with 4 million and nearly 2 million units respectively sold to date. Regarding this announcement, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications George Harrison commented that "...the new colors just add another element of fun, allowing people to 'personalize' who they are by the color, or colors they pick."
