Blizzard Contributes $1.1 Million To Make-A-Wish

World of Warcraft developer Blizzard Entertainment made a donation in the amount of $1.1 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the charity said on Wednesday. It wasn't an everyday donation -- the funding was comprised of 50 percent of revenues generated from sales of an in-game World of Warcraft pet, the Pandaren Monk. Blizzard began offering the monk in November 2009 for $10, and ran the charity promotion through the end of last year. The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980, specializing in granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Donations help the group fulfill those wishes, which would otherwise be unattainable for young patients. Blizzard's donation will go towards Make-A-Wish Foundation of America and Make-A-Wish International. "We've had a long relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and we're proud to support the priceless work they do for children," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. "This donation also reflects the spirit and generosity of our players -- their enthusiasm for World of Warcraft and for supporting a good cause made this possible." Make-A-Wish Foundation of America president and CEO David Williams added, "This generosity is helping us bring hope, strength and joy to children when they and their families are facing an unimaginably difficult time in their young lives."
