Capcom has officially announced that it will be recreating its 8-bit original Bionic Commando as Bionic Commando Rearmed, an Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC downloadable due for release this spring with cross-game unlockables for its full next-gen sequel. Capcom says the NES remake will bring "new visuals, new weapons, online rankings, a reworked musical score and the addition of a 2-player co-op mode," and will "unlock new content and provide secret insight into characters and plot of the brand new Bionic Commando sequel." That sequel, announced in October of last year, is currently in production by Capcom and Swedish developer GRIN, which will also produce the downloadable. GRIN announced in December that it is opening a new Gothenburg studio as production ramps up on the titles. Said Capcom producer Ben Judd, overseeing both Bionic Commando projects, “The release of Bionic Commando Rearmed allows us to deliver to fans of the original game a remake they have been clamoring for, while also introducing the series to a whole new audience. And with GRIN taking care of development, we can ensure that there is real consistency across both the Bionic Commando titles."
