Capcom Confirms Street Fighter IV Home Versions

Officials from Capcom have confirmed details of the home versions of long awaited beat ‘em-up sequel Street Fighter IV, with the game set to appear only on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. First announced in October of last year, prototypes of the coin-op version of the game are already being location tested in Japan. Despite rumors that the game would appear on all formats, with graphically simplified versions for formats such as the Wii and Nintendo DS, Capcom has today confirmed only three versions of the game for the most graphically powerful systems. A release date for the game has still not been announced however, despite Internet rumors of a Christmas launch worldwide. The game, the first true sequel in the ground breaking series since 1997’s Street Fighter III: New Generation, uses stylized 3D graphics which mimic the art style of Street Fighter II but where gameplay still occurs on a 2D plane. The game also continues to use a six button control system and features all of the original Street Fighter II characters - as well as new fighters. The game is one of a number of retro remakes of classic Capcom franchises due in the coming months, including downloadable titles Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (a direct remake of the original using high resolution 2D sprites), Bionic Commando Rearmed, 1942: Joint Strike and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. The company is also planning a high budget retail relaunch of the Bionic Commando series for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, to be co-developed by Swedish developer GRIN.
