These latest companies, all wireless carriers, are AT&T Wireless Group, Hutchison Telephone Co Ltd and Hutchison 3G UK Ltd, KG Telecommunications Co Ltd, KPN Mobile NV and Telecom Italia Mobile. NTT DoCoMo and SCEI will share their service know-how with these six companies so that each can begin offering new services to mobile phone users in their respective markets in Europe, North America and Asia. The i-mode system lets cell phones access the web on small screens. Since it was introduced in early 1999, i-mode has grown to over 17 million users in Japan. Last August, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc and DoCoMo announced an alliance to link up their popular products to allow i-mode users to access Playstation games on their handsets.
