Curious Labs announced Poser 5, a new version of the company's 3D character animation tool. New features in Poser 5 include:
The Firefly Renderer, a subdivision surface and raytracing engine that enables smoothing of facets, displacement mapping, 3D motion blur, depth of field effects, procedural textures, dynamic cloth and more
Dynamic hair with growth, styling and physics controls
Facial photo-based modeling using scanned 3D human heads and a texture database
FacePutty, a tool for interactive sculpting and generating caricatures and random heads
New 3D human models with fully articulated hands and feet, photo-realistic texture maps and facial morphs
Collision detection tools Poser 5 is expected to be available later this summer with a suggested retail price of $549. Poser 5 will initially be available for Windows; details about a Macintosh version will be announced later this summer.
