Di-O-Matic is shipping a new facial modeling and animation plug-in for 3ds max 4.x called Facial Studio. The product supports various styles of animation, from photo-realistic to cartoon, and includes these features:

  • Low resolution and high resolution output, both optimized to be used with NurMS sub-divisions.

    • Head deformers for controling the nose, nostrils, mouth, eyes, ears, cheeks, chin, neck, eyebrows, teeth, tongue, and eyeballs.

    • Head generators for controlling the gender, race, age, and ethnicity of characters.

    • A sub-surface scattering shader, for giving realistic lighting effects to skin.

    • Perfect UVW mapping coordinates, designed to allow maps to be created easily and without stretching.

    • A range of expressions and phonemes for controlling complex muscle combinations using sliders, on any heads created with Facial Studio.

    • Support for custom morph targets.

    • Complete MaxScript support. Facial Studio will be available through most Discreet product distributors and resellers, or directly on Di-O-Matic’s web site. It is priced at $499 until March 25, at which time it jumps to $699.
