2K Games says 2007's critically-acclaimed console action title The Darkness will get a sequel, with Digital Extremes stepping in to take the reins from original developer Starbreeze Studios. Like its million-unit selling predecessor, The Darkness II will be a first-person shooter starring Jackie Estacado -- now the boss of his organized crime family -- who wields an ancient power. The story and universe are based on a supernatural horror series of comic books from Top Cow. 2K is angling the concept of "quad-wielding" as a main trait for the title -- described as the ability to simultaneously fire two weapons while also attacking or throwing objects using demonic arms. The company also highlights "twisted" storytelling -- featuring comic book writer Paul Jenkins, who'll provide the narrative. The company also describes the Darkness II's stylistic violence: "The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light," says 2K president Christoph Hartmann. "Combined with the arsenal of weapons at Jackie's disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we're proud to announce another title that delivers on our core values of creating games for gamers," he adds.
