Electronic Arts has announced it will continue to support scholarship funds it initiated last year by providing $60,000 in scholarships to the Masters of Digital Media Program, a 20-month professional graduate degree, at Great Northern Way Campus. The school, based in British Columbia, attracts students who have an eye on working in the digital media industry. EA will award three scholarships of $20,000, as well as a four-month internship in the spring of 2009 to the recipients. The internship will be held at one of EA’s global development studios, where the students will get hands-on experience working in the video game industry. According to a press release, the scholarships “are awarded based on academic achievement, work experience, and demonstrated competencies that are indicators of success in the games industry. All applicants to the program will be considered.” Three scholarship recipients from last year are currently interns at EA’s Vancouver studios. The Masters of Digital Media Program is still a very new course of study, having only launched in September 2007. Officials from the school say they anticipate a total of 35 new students to start the program in September 2008. All students complete a paid summer internship. The deadline to apply to the program for the 2008-09 school year is June 30.
