Starting out 2009, Gamasutra's editors have compiled all of their 'Best of 2008' posts into one major feature, from Top 5 Disappointments through Top 5 Gameplay Mechanics, to the Top 10 Games of 2008 and beyond. As we explain in the introduction to the piece, which compiles individual news-based charts and adds reader feedback on those original posts: "Gamasutra presents a collection of all of the year-end charts we've published over the last two weeks. Spanning categories ranging from the year's biggest disappointments to the best surprises, our choices have alternately earned your praise, ire, and disbelief, as you're about to see in selected reader comments. Just for fun, try comparing this year's winners to last year's. How does this year's crop of winning titles stack up against last year's offerings? Surprisingly, in some cases. Onward to the countdowns." The full set of countdowns listed are as follows: 2008's top disappointments, downloadable titles, overlooked games, gameplay mechanics, indie games, surprises, PC games, trends, handheld games, developers, controversies, and the top 10 games of the year. The complete set of charts are now available on Gamasutra, including plenty of commentary and reader feedback (no registration required, please feel free to link to this feature from other websites).
