The Interactive Entertainment Institute has announced that the G.A.M.E.S. Synergy Summit 2006, originally planned for January 17-18, 2006, is being postponed until later in the year. An acronym for Government, Academic, Military, Entertainment and Simulation, the G.A.M.E.S. Synergy Summit 2006 aims to address the convergence of interactive gaming and simulation protocols. According to the organizers, the rescheduling is due to the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Wilma as well as unexpected complications with the venue. An announcement regarding the new dates will be forthcoming. The conference had recently announced inventor Ray Kurzweil as its keynote for the event - it's not yet been announced whether he will rejoin the event in its new, yet to be determined date. A spokesperson for the IEI said, "We are committed to keeping the G.A.M.E.S. Synergy Summit 2006 the premier cross-disciplinary event bringing together the leaders of the diverse government, academic, military, entertainment and simulation ("G.A.M.E.S.") disciplines and others involved in interactive multimedia applications."
