Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Gaijin Games, developer of the BIT.TRIP series, has acquired puzzle game creator Robotube Games, with its first title set to be announced sometime in the next month.
Gaijin Games, developer of the BIT.TRIP series, has acquired Robotube Games in what it jokingly describes as an "extremely hostile takeover." Robotube Games develops puzzle games, including the upcoming WiiWare title Bloktonik, and Zyrx for the iPhone. Bloktonik was originally a Flash game developed as a collaboration between Robotube Games and Gaijin Games. The developer said: "In what can only be called an 'extremely hostile takeover,' Gaijin has followed in the footsteps of other legendary game studios like Activision and EA and has gone on a company acquisition rampage this year." "Together with Robotube, Gaijin is poised to fulfill this year’s theme of dominance," the statement added. Robotube's first release as part of Gaijin Games is set to be announced sometime in the next month. Robotube is at work on iOS games and a console title, while Gaijin is developing a game for Nintendo 3DS. Gaijin Games' BIT.TRIP.Runner has been nominated for the Excellence In Visual Art award at this year's Independent Games Festival. Talking about the game in an interview with Gamasutra, Gaijin Games co-founder Alex Neuse said of the game: "We wanted to make a 2D side-scrolling platformer to represent CommanderVideo tackling the challenges of the real world and not taking no for an answer, but of course the BIT.TRIP series is a rhythm music series, so we had to figure out how to turn a platformer into a music game." "Once we knew the theme and the gameplay style, we dealt with the constraints of our genre and found gold."
