The Game Developers Conference has announced myGDC, a professional web-based networking tool for game developers which is available free to all GDC 2008 attendees, and promises a swiftly expanding set of tools to allow pre-event communication. According to organizers of GDC(which is part of the CMP Game Group, as is Gamasutra), in addition to enabling users to set up individual profiles, upload pictures and other images, myGDC facilitates discourse, networking, and business dealings. The tool allows users to search its database, which includes not only other game developers and other industry professionals, but also confirmed speakers, exhibitors, and the GDC staff. The site also offers the ability to send messages and add and recommend friends and developers. While still early in development, new myGDC features coming soon will also allow for users to create and share their GDC schedules, and longer-term plans include many extra features and a widening of the service to include even more professional game developers. "Adding myGDC to this year's conference is the next step in enhancing the GDC networking experience," said Jamil Moledina, Executive Director of the GDC. "Every year before the show, professionals in the game industry are abuzz e-mailing each other trying to set up meetings at GDC. The myGDC professional networking system will help them not only connect with people they know, but discover other attendees who have similar professional concerns, set up meetings, and continue to build relationships long after the show is over." GDC 2008, which takes place from February 18-22nd, 2008, features more than 400 lectures, panels, tutorials and round-table discussions on a comprehensive selection of game development topics taught by leading industry experts. To register and for further information about GDC and the myGDC networking tool, please visit the official GDC website.
