Game Sales Rebound After Post-Attack Dip

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that game sales dipped significantly after the September 11 terrorist attacks, but that the sales have picked up in subsequent weeks to pre-attack levels.

Based on data from NPD, the article in the Journal says that U.S. videogame sales slumped during the week of the attack due to the unscheduled closing of many retailers and delays in launches of games with more violent themes. However, sales picked up fairly quickly. The initial dip was pegged at 20% for the week ending September 15th, but sales rebounded 6% the subsequent week, and raised another 13% the week after that. Some have theorized that game sales may continue to increase in the coming months, as the public turn to games and other forms of entertainment during the economic downturn, and as military action continues.
