Education-focused site GameCareerGuide announces the latest Game Design Challenge results, which are based around the concept of joy, while ushering in a new challenge inspired by the release of Pac-Man CE DX. Joy The latest completed challenge on GameCareerGuide centered around Ernest Adams' latest Designer's Notebook column, in which he argues that games which create joy -- a concept that's distinct from fun -- are in short supply, and should be a focus of the industry, The best entries to the challenge are listed below: Dean Ray Johnson; Legend of the Mooks Aaron Yip, Student at Georgia Institute of Technology; Our Song Emily Greenquist, Student at Tribeca Flashpoint; My Palace Ryan George (Design), Elise Motzny (Art), Tucker Williams (Design & Audio), Game Development Students at Columbia College Chicago; Illuminate These, and several honorable mentions, can be read in detail at the GameCareerGuide results page. CE DX Meanwhile, GCG has launched its latest challenge, which runs through December 1. Entrants are invited to come up with a new take on a retro classic, as inspired by the release of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network next week. Says the challenge: "Your job: pick a classic arcade game -- could be obscure, could be mega-popular -- and create a brand new edition for the download platform of your choice, highlighting new and innvoative play mechanisms, social integration, and whatever else you think it needs to get 'up to 2010' speed." Full details and means to enter are available at GameCareerGuide.
