This week's GameFly video game rental charts for North America, specifically relating to games rented via the games-by-mail service for the week ending April 18th, show popularity over multiple game formats. The Xbox continues to ride high on the all-format charts, with Bioware's martial arts RPG Jade Empire taking over the top spot from the Xbox port of Doom 3, which fell one notch to number two. Rockstar edges in at number 3 with the release of Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, its magazine-approved answer to the NFS Underground series. The same troika in the same order showed up naturally enough leading the Xbox-specific chart, while Midnight Club 3 took over the #1 position on the PlayStation 2-specific chart, trailed by God of War and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Resident Evil 4 and Star Fox Assault stayed on from last week as #1 and #2 on the GameCube chart, while Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door made a resurgence to reclaim the number three spot. Little has changed on Nintendo's handheld charts: Yoshi Touch & Go, Wario Ware Touched!, and Rayman DS on the Nintendo DS and Mario Party Advance, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the GBA all held their respective positions over from last week. Things were only slightly more shaken up in the PSP chart: Ridge Racers continues to lead the pack, but Metal Gear Ac!d is now right behind it and Wipeout Pure in third. Interestingly, the little-publicized Archer MacLean's Mercury was fourth, ahead of higher-budget titles like Need for Speed Underground or Twisted Metal: Head On -- perhaps an indication of how hungry PSP owners are for new games?
