Convenience store giant 7-Eleven has announced that it has lured back GameStop President Joe DePinto to become President and Chief Executive Officer of 7-Eleven, effective later this week. DePinto has served as President at GameStop since March 2005, and before joining the firm, was Vice President of Operations at 7-Eleven. DePinto recently helped steer GameStop through its merger with Electronics Boutique, leaving the merged company operating over 4,200 retail stores, largely in the United States, but also in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In addition, GameStop owns the GameStop.com and ebgames.com retail websites, and the top-selling U.S. video game magazine, Game Informer, and will report its latest earnings figures on Tuesday, giving good initial information on the state of the video game retail market leading up to this holiday season. According to a filing made by GameStop, R. Richard Fontaine, GameStop' chairman and CEO, and Chief Operating Officer Daniel DeMatteo will assume DePinto's duties while searching for a successor.
