Gamasutra's education-focused sister site has published the results of its latest Game Design Challenge, which asked readers to design an iPad game, while also posting its next contest: come up with a new game concept for an existing, inappropriate game title. The iPad Challenge! GCG's most recent, completed challenge asked readers to deliver a design for an iPad game, celebrating the release of Apple's latest game-enabled mobile device. Entries that won awards are detailed below: Best Entries Ryan George, Columbia College Chicago Student, iToss iToss is a clever game of virtual Frisbee that sacrifices none of the original game's appeal. The iPad's accelerometer ensures that Frisbee's physical aspect remains fully intact, and the simple but fun concept is a perfect fit for the App Store. Cesar Alejandro Manzano Ortiz, Preparatoria del Tecnologico de Monterrey Campus Chihuahua, Talk to Me A few iPad games -- notably EA's Scrabble -- include optional gameplay features that involve linking an iPhone or iPod Touch to the iPad via a Bluetooth connection. Talk to Me expands on this concept in an intriguing cooperative stealth title. Carl Killian, Mothership Mothership's complex competitive gameplay would not be possible on the small screen of an iPhone or iPod Touch, but the iPad's expanded screen size allows players to enjoy this unique two-player shoot'em-up. Making Sense of Nonsense The new challenge, which will accept entries through Wednesday, May 19, invites aspiring designers to submit ideas for new games based on old titles that don't make that much sense. The initial inspiration for the challenge was Square Enix's sleeper hit Vagrant Story, which hit the original PlayStation in 2000. What kind of game would you imagine Vagrant Story to be if you'd never heard of it before, and weren't able to see screenshots or game art? The challenge asks entrants to answer that question, using the pre-existing title of their choice. Full details on this challenge are available at GameCareerGuide now.
