In this Game Career Guide feature, Oren Ross, lead of New York University team that won a mtvU and Cisco Systems Digital Incubator grant for projects on broadband programming for snagu, journals his other experience in getting the mtvU Fellowship. He introduces his start at mtvU fellowship in the following excerpt: "Having been through quite a few internships, I have found one thing always happens—no one knows what to do with you the first day or two. A lot of times, they don’t know where to put you, or what work to give you. The first day here was not so different. When I got to the office, some of the team was surprised by the emergence of a new member, even if I was only going to be around for the summer. They didn’t have a computer for me and were not sure where to seat me, but luckily I brought my laptop and the floor was basically empty as they had just moved on to a new floor, which would fill in the coming days. For my first day, I was told to check out the sites that they develop games for, and play some of the games to see what they were like. Since I didn’t have a company computer, I got to play on my PowerBook, which unfortunately didn’t play all the games. It took about a week for my computer to get in, and my laptop became so important over that first week that I brought it with me every day."
