Sony has announced the forthcoming release of a new entry in the Ratchet & Clank franchise, to be developed by series creators Insomniac Games. Named Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, the new game will be launched this autumn on PlayStation 3. The last entry in the franchise was Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, which was originally released as a download-only title and then subsequently on Blu-ray. The new game is assumed to be the new PlayStation 3 exclusive recently referred to by Insomniac as their next project. The multi-million selling franchise has generated eight titles so far across the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PSP formats, with Insomniac working on all of the home console entries. Insomniac recently revealed that it has sold 32 million units worldwide, in combined sales of all its titles from the Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance franchises. The new game will feature the tradition action platformer gameplay of the series, along with new space combat, new weapons and revelations about both main character’s origins. No screenshots from the new game have yet been released.
