Representatives from French developer GPU-Tech have announced that RTSquare 1.3, its GPU-based rendering plugin for 3DS Max and VIZ, is now available for free for personal or non-commercial use. GPU-Tech's RTSquare promises to increase rendering speeds in 3DS Max by 10 to 50 percent by taking advantage of a PC's graphics card, provided the card is pixel shader 2.0 compatible. The latest version of RTSquare, 1.3 was updated in October to include new features such as render elements and area lights, as well as improved global illumination, motion blur, area lights, blurry reflections, render elements, a new more intuitive interface, and real time camera preview. Compatible with Autodesk 3DS Max 6, 7 and 8, as well as with VIZ 2005 or newer, RTSquare is also available in a professional from GPU-Tech for $800. GPU-Tech founder Philippe Biarnaix has commented in the release that the company sees GPU based applications as 'the way of the future,' and that 'development of graphic chipsets for GPU programming by companies like ATI are a sign of this evolution, which allows harnessing of the enormous computing power of GPU's.'
