Vormetric, Inc., a provider of security systems for protecting enterprise information, announced that game middleware company Havok Ltd. has chosen its CoreGuard Security System to protect sensitive information including internal data, as well as customer information and intellectual property. With teams working across offices in Dublin, Ireland and San Francisco, CA, Havok needed a system that could secure its collaborative environment with minimal impact to employee productivity and system performance. Havok chose Vormetric's CoreGuard, according to the company, because it met the company's present security requirements and can be expanded to support Havok's growing business. Founded in 1998, with origins in the computer science department of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, Havok Ltd.'s physics and other middleware-related engines are available for the PlayStation2, PSP, Xbox, GameCube, and Windows. Havok Ltd. technology is used by game developers including Valve, Pandemic, and Remedy. Its enhancement products are also used to drive special effects in movies such as The Matrix and Troy. Because it is transparent to applications, database management systems, file systems and storage infrastructures, CoreGuard does not hinder the performance of Havok's IT-intensive developer applications needed to enchance its customers' products. With CoreGuard, Havok can protect data residing in databases, storage infrastructures, document files, laptops, and files queued on a printer server. Furthermore, Havok is able to enforce and retain control of security policies regardless of geography, so policy enforcement is consistent across its U.S. and European operations.
