Havok, a supplier of cross-platform middleware solutions for game developers, has been implemented in the development of two new PSP titles. Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, co-developed by Nihilistic, EA Canada and published by EA, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, developed and published by EA, were each looking for a reliable collision detection system that would provide performance without consuming excessive memory. Marvel Nemesis, released this past October, is the first game to benefit directly from Havok 3, the third version of Havok Physics, which houses continuous collision detection at its core. EA Canada was able to incorporate the rigid body simulations and character control and navigation they desired. The newest of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is based on the fourth book in the series and the associated movie. EA needed the same software to be powerful enough for multiple platforms, including current-gen. Havok Physics was the only physics middleware available for handheld devices. According to the company, Havok has been successful optimizing quality and performance due to its relationship with SN Systems, the provider of compilation tools for PSP. Working closely with SN enabled Havok to squeeze every last ounce of performance out of the platform, allowing Nihilistic and EA to create successful PSP games.
