David O'Meara, longtime managing director of major Intel-owned physics middleware developer Havok, has announced that he will leave the company in June to "pursue other business interests." A seven-year veteran of the Dublin-based company, O'Meara was first hired in 2003 as chief executive of the then-independent firm. Since the company's acquisition by Intel in 2007, O'Meara has served as managing director. "Havok is a true Irish success story and continually demonstrates what it takes to forge ahead in a competitive global business," said O'Meara in a statement. "Havok is synonymous with quality and innovation. I feel great about all the achievements and innovations at Havok over the past seven years and I consider myself fortunate to have worked with such a great team. The company is in good hands and its position in the global market is unmatched." In an official comment, Havok said O'Meara plans to "pursue other business interests," giving no other reason for his departure. The company says its board of directors will appoint a new managing director "shortly." Immediately prior to his role at Havok, O'Meara served as CEO of e-commerce firm Commerx. He also co-founded the network company PostGem, which was acquired for $155 million in 1999. "David will leave the company in a very strong position and we thank him for the leadership he has shown," said Havok chairman and Intel senior VP Renee James.
