Humana's Games for Health team has selected the winners of InsertCoin, a game idea competition encouraging the development of interactive experiences that promote healthy lifestyles. This year's winner, Dance Class, features virtual dance instructor avatars who teach players real-world dance moves. Shelly Warmuth of Green Bay, Wisconsin, received a $5,000 cash prize for her winning entry. John Green of Brooklyn, New York, took home the contest's runner-up prize of $3,000 for Camp Awesome, a summer camp simulator featuring a number of outdoor exercises. A third-place award of $2,000 went to Kevin Ray for Jungle Mayhem, a social game with a focus on physical activity. "The winners are representative of three major themes that came out among all the entrants," said Games for Health Project co-founder Ben Sawyer. "Those were: we want some dance games that aren't as metaphorical, we want some active games with more storyline, and we want games that we can take out into the world not just in our living room." All three winners will also have the chance to see their game ideas prototyped or commercialized, with help and support from Humana's Games for Health team. The Games for Health project promotes new game ideas that serve as catalysts to healthier lifestyles. Earlier this month, Games for Health launched Dancetown, a rhythm-based dance game for active seniors.
