Japan’s NTT DoCoMo plans to launch a European version of its popular I-Mode service later this year.
NTT will team up with Dutch and Italian telecom providers to offer I-Mode games and services to 30 million cell phone subscribers in Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. The company hopes to expand to Austria, Spain, France, Greece and Turkey at a later date as well as looking forward to offering service in the United States. NTT DoCoMo will announce a new, high-capacity, Java-based version of I-Mode in Japan at the end January.
