Putting an end to recent consumer press speculation, id Software and Activision have confirmed that their highly anticipated squad-based PC game Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Though no specific dates have been announced saying how far behind the console versions might follow the expected April PC release date, id confirmed that two outside studios are currently at work on the console versions. Dallas-based Nerve Software, it was revealed, is currently at work porting the game for the Xbox 360. The studio has previously released Return to Castle Wolfenstein Multiplayer for the PC, Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War for the Xbox, and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil for the PC and Xbox. Foster City, CA's Z-Axis, an Activision subsidiary, is producing the PlayStation 3 version of the game. Z-Axis has previously worked on a number of key multiplatform franchises, including Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX, Aggressive Inline, and X-Men: The Official Game. All versions of the game, designed and developed for the PC by Splash Damage (see today's Gamasutra feature featuring an interview with Splash Damage founder Paul Wedgwood) will feature exclusively multiplayer missions (previously noted as 24 player for the PC version, and apparently capped at 16 players for the console ports), with class-based combat in either the conventionally armed GDF army or the futuristic Strogg invasion force, each with its own weapons, hardware, and ground and air-borne vehicles. Said id CEO Todd Hollenshead, “We're pleased to be working with Nerve and Z-Axis to bring the highly-anticipated gameplay from Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars to the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 system.”
