Intel has introduced a new version of its C++ compiler, which adds new features and support for the company's "Hyper Threading Technology". The company claims that the version 7.0 of the Intel C++ compiler for Windows and Linux can improve the performance of applications on Itanium 2, Xeon and Pentium 4 systems by up to 40 percent when compared to compilers from other vendors. The Intel C++ Compiler 7.0 integrates with Microsoft Visual Studio, and the Linux version provides GNU compatibility to C++ with the adoption of the C++ application binary interface. The compiler also include an auto-parallelization option that automatically looks for opportunities in applications to create multiple execution threads. Version 7.0 of the Intel C++ Compiler for Windows and Linux is available for $399 (per platform). The compiler is available from Intel and resellers for download and will be available on CD-ROM by the end of this month.
