Over 1.5 million voters elected Runescape house Jagex as UK developer of the year in Future's public-voted Golden Joysticks awards, also picking their favorite titles from numerous other genre categories. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed II won out as Action/Adventure Game of the Year, for example, beating out Batman: Arkham Asylum and Red Dead Redemption. Organizers said they saw voter participation rise over 26 percent. Plants vs. Zombies was crowned Downloadable Game of the Year and Strategy Game of the Year, while Street Fighter IV took home the Fighting Game of the Year category. Guitar Hero V outplayed other contenders to win the music game category, while Call of Duty: Black Ops was named "The One to Watch." Riot Games' League of Legends, which took home an impressive five awards at last month's Game Developer's Choice Online Awards, also took the Online Game of the Year category at the Golden Joysticks, while Nintendo's chart mainstay Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver was named best portable title. 2D Boy's Independent Games Festival winner World of Goo earned Puzzle Game of the Year -- although it released in 2008 on PC and Wii Ware, its Mac OSX version arrived this year via Steam. Forza Motorsport 3 won Racing Game of the Year, and Mass Effect 2 was voters' RPG of the Year. Modern Warfare 2 earned Shooter of the Year, while Final Fantasy XIII received recognition for its music in the Soundtrack of the Year category. Jagex, which won Developer of the Year over EA Bright Light, Lionhead, Media Molecule, Rare, Rockstar North, Rocksteady Studios, SCE London Studio and Team 17, was pleased to accept the award for the second year in a row. "There was some really tough competition for this award, and it goes without saying that we are incredibly delighted to be taking the award with us once again this year," said Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard. "I would like thank our incredible community who voted for us in their thousands and, on behalf of the entire Jagex team, I would like to dedicate this award to them."
