Square Enix's Nintendo DS RPG Dragon Quest IX topped Japanese weekly sales charts for the third week straight, as total unit sales top the 3 million mark, Media Create said Thursday. For the week ended July 26, Dragon Quest IX sold 270,000 units in Japan. Total sales for the game, which brought out massive lines of fans at Japanese video game retailers when it launched earlier this month, hit 3.2 million units during the week. In its opening weekend, Dragon Quest IX sold an astonishing 2.3 million units. The game has no US release date. Not only has the game lit up software charts, but it also drove a sizeable boost in sales of Nintendo DS hardware, more than doubling DS sales week-on-week on the game's release. Dragon Quest IX was the only game this week to break the 100,000 unit sales mark, as sales of other strong performers, Nintendo's Tomodachi Connection and Wii Sports Resort, also saw week-on-week declines in sales. Four new releases made it onto the most recent week's top 10, including Konami's Penguin no Mondai: Tenkuu no Senshi, Nintendo's Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Oosouji, and Takara Tomy's Katekyoo Hitman Reborn! DS Flame Rumble Hyper -- Moeyo Mirai for DS, as well as Namco Bandai's PlayStation 3 game Katamari Damacy Tribute. Titles dropping out of Japan's top 10 from the previous week were Ys I & II: Chronicles, Boku no Natsuyasumi 4 (My Summer Vacation 4), Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, Wii Fit, Pokemon Platinum, and Sloan to MacHale: Nazo No Monogatari. Below are the Japanese sales charts for the week ended July 26:
