Japanese Charts: Tales Of The World Holds Off Demon’s Souls

This week’s slew of new releases in Japan has been unable to energize the charts in the same way as last week, as Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 on PSP holds onto the number one spot ahead of new PS3 entry Demon’s Souls.

This week’s slew of new releases in Japan has been unable to energize the charts in the same way as last week. Namco Bandai’s Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 on PSP holds onto the number one spot -- although with only 45,000 units sold, as the overall market slumps back to previous mid-January levels. The highest new entry of the week, at number two, was Sony’s Demon’s Souls for the PlayStation 3. Developed by From Software, the game is a spiritual sequel to the company’s King's Field role-playing game series. It debuted with 40,000 units sold. The rest of the top 10 is largely unchanged from the previous week, with the only other new entry being a new tie-in to the Detective Conan/Case Closed anime and manga. The new Nintendo DS title from Namco Bandai sold 20,000 units at number six. Although individual sales data is only released for the top 10 titles, all lower ranked releases are indicated to have sold 15,000 units or less. This includes Nintendo’s Another Code: R, Gateway of Memory for Wii at number 11 – a sequel to the Nintendo DS game known in North America as Trace Memory. New at number 13 is Rockstar’s Midnight Club: Los Angeles for PlayStation 3, published in Japan by Spike. Namco Bandai anime license Chibi Maruko-Chan DS debuted at number 16, with role-playing game Destiny Links, also by Namco Bandai, at number 23. Sony’s new adventure title Enkaku Sousa: Sana e no 23 Hiai for the PSP rounds out the chart at number 30.
