It's been a busy few weeks on the Japanese sales charts, with Wii Sports Resort, Dragon Quest IX, and now SD Gundam G Generation Wars vying for the top spot. Namco Bandai's SD Gundam G Generation Wars for PlayStation 2 sold 175,000 units in Japan for the week ended August 9, according to Media Create, capturing the top spot. During the week, four games sold over 100,000 units -- good news for a domestic market that has seen lagging video game sales as the global recession lingers. SD Gundam G Generation Wars toppled Capcom's Wii-exclusive Monster Hunter 3, which had previously dethroned the hugely-popular Dragon Quest IX, which in turn had taken the lead from Wii Sports Resort. Other games breaking the 100,000 mark in this most recent week were Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest IX, and Tales of VS.. Several games dropped off of the chart from the prior week, including Puyo Puyo 7, Gears of War 2, Hisshou Pachinko*Pachi-Slot Kouryaku Series Vol. 14, Armored Core 3 Portable, Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Oosouji, and ToHeart 2 Portable Double Pack. Below are the Japanese sales charts for the week ended August 2:
