The Xbox 360 has managed to outsell the PlayStation 3 for the second consecutive week in Japan, although sales are down on the previous week across the board. As Pokemon Platinum still rides high in the software charts the Nintendo DS was again the best-selling platform of the week, despite sales falling by around 2,500 units to a total of 61,242. As PSP hardware sales continued their decline, the Wii was able to steal second place, as sales rose by a few hundred units to 29,686. The PSP experienced a drop of around 1,500 units to 28,674, as the market continues to wait for the release of the new PSP-3000 model. Despite a drop in sales of over 14,000 units, the Xbox 360 was still the fourth best-selling platform of the week, with a total of 13,777 units. It is unclear to what degree continuing retail inventory problems are to blame for the fall, although they are not reported to be a severe as in previous weeks. PlayStation 3 sales were almost entirely unchanged at 8,156 units, despite the top five success of Eternal Sonata in the software charts. Sales of the PlayStation 2 were also static at 7,720 units. Overall in the top 50, there were 22 titles for the Nintendo DS, nine for the Wii, seven for the PSP, six for the PlayStation 2 and only three each for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
