Japanese Hardware: PS3 Sales Up 29 Percent Week-On-Week

PlayStation 3 sales rose 29 percent week-on-week in Japan to 32,130 units, but sales of all other platforms were either down or flat, according to Japanese tracking firm Media Create.

PlayStation 3 sales rose 29 percent week-on-week in Japan to 32,130 units, but sales of all other platforms were either down or flat, according to Japanese tracking firm Media Create. PS3 saw sales rise during the week ended February 21, as Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition for PS3 captured the top software sales slot with 143,000 units sold. Three new PS3 games entered the top 10 charts this week. While the PS3 was the top-selling home console, on a combined basis, Nintendo's line of DS hardware, including the DS Lite, DSi, and DSi LL, sold 44,821 units during the week, leading all other hardware. Individually, the DSi LL sold 24,388, the DSi 15,380, and the DS Lite 5,053. Broken down, the PSP-3000 was the top-selling individual piece of hardware, moving 32,796 for the week. Combined with the UMD-less PSP Go, the PSP line sold 34,167 units for the week. Wii sales dropped to 31,652 from 37,501, while Xbox 360 sales dropped to 2,453 from 3,428.
