Although Devil May Cry continues to be Capcom’s best selling franchise this generation, sales of the third entry in the series are down by over 10,000 units on its predecessor’s first week sales. With 194,530 units sold the newest game is off to a reasonable, but somewhat slow start, although how much of this is due to the imminent release of Dynasty Warriors 5 next week is unclear. As a result, sales were down almost 20 percent from last week, although still 81 percent of the weekly average. The next highest entry was all-female wrestling game Rumble Roses with 73,935 units sold – an extremely solid entry for a new franchise, despite its dismissal in the West as shallow titillation. Indeed, 90 percent of the game’s first week stock sold out, suggesting it could have done even better. For the first time in a number of months, the PlayStation 2 is back as the best selling console, with 38,954 units sold for a 34.04 percent market share. The PSP was only just behind, with 38,314 units and a 33.48 percent market share. This notably means that, unlike the Nintendo DS, the console has still not sold more than 1 million units, despite its initial stock problems now being essentially over. The Nintendo DS was next with a 19.54 percent market share, followed by the Game Boy Advance at 9.82 percent, the GameCube at 2.85 percent and the Xbox at 0.26 percent.
