Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. Wii easily led Japanese software sales for a second consecutive week, but the Western-developed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was able to capture a respectable spot in the region's top 10. Tracking firm said that for the week ended December 13, Infinity Ward-developed Modern Warfare 2 sold 93,000 units on Sony's PlayStation 3 in its Japanese debut week. It's a feat for such a Western-styled game to do so relatively well in Japan, and shows the kind of worldwide reach that the military shooter series. Media Create did not report sales of the Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 2 launched in the U.S. on November 10 and has been topping charts there and in the UK since release. Activision, which owns Infinity Ward and publishes the game (though Square Enix distributes title in Japan), said a week after launch that the game grossed $550 million in its opening five days. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, however, was the top-selling game for its second week of availability, selling 431,000 units. The game, also available in the U.S., has sold 1.37 million units in Japan in total, according to Media Create Namco Bandai's new Wii role-playing game Tales of Graces had a strong debut during the week with 143,000 units sold. Namco Bandai's PSP fighting game Naruto Shippuden Narutimate Accel 3 debuted at number five, selling 77,000. Games that fell off Media Create's top 10 list from last week include Koei's Samurai Warriors 3, Professor Layton and the Flute of Malevolent Destiny, and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed II.
