What is really a real-time multiplayer in today's technological world?
Let’s see the company have three games at the moment: Match-up created as partnership with Big Fish another big gaming company, Jawfish Words… not going to write the whole name its ridiculously long, and Jawfish Poker. So that adds up to 3 games and so if it is to be the industry leader it sounds a bit too much. But I can see from where they are coming from, nowadays almost every company is claiming to be something that they are not, the question is how much are you exaggerating. And so let’s see King.com is one of the newest top ranked and visited game developers on Facebook with its very popular and successful Candy Crush. King has only three games on iOS and yet is still one of the most popular companies, Gung Ho is a similar case with it’s Puzzle and Dragons being so popular. Now, there is a chance for Jawfish to be a top company if they actually did had a game as successful as the mentioned companies. But up to date I don’t think that they have a game that is so significant at least not in number wise. The games offered are certainly something different and not very often seen in the industry. They are truly real-time multiplayer but the lack of critical mass makes those games more like playing against bots and so pretty much a single player game or a bot mode style game because half of the time is spend playing against bots and not real humans. It’s an interesting concept what Jawfish is trying to do but the way I see it, it’s not happening anytime soon because mobile network and internet are still not as reliable as they should be and so playing games over a 3G/4G is often a very crappy user experience. So unless you play those games from home you are going to have a lot of connection issues and that ruins the whole experience. The closest that they come to success is probably with their game Match-Up which seems to be outperforming rivals titles such as EA’s Tetris Blitz or Zynga’s Running with Friends. Here is the thing though it is admirable that companies of this size actually try to make this work and giant gaming companies are afraid to even think about implementing this technology in their games. The fun aspect of having a multiplayer is that the game becomes more competitive while if you are playing a single player game its just playing a normal game without having this rush and high adrenaline when someone is passing your score and you might lose. I believe after several years when people finally make a stable internet connection and we have wifi on the go, those type of games will be popular. If you look into the CoD's series, one of the most important and crucial part is the multiplayer, and if its crappy the game woudn't been so popular. Of course single player missions are fun and people do play them but its those countless hours and replay value that makes a game popular. And with multiplayer that can be easily created as an opportunity because there is always a different outcome, you never know what the person on the other side would do. That's where all the fun comes in.
