Dave Kosak has left Blizzard after a decade of design leadership on games like World of Warcraft and Hearthstone.
Dave Kosak, principle narrative designer on the Warcraft-themed card battler Hearthstone, has left Blizzard.
Kosak, who spent a total of 12 years at the studio working on games like Hearthstone and World of Warcraft, made the big announcement over Twitter today and revealed that he'll be joining the team at Deviation Games as creative director on a yet-unrevealed project.
"After 12 remarkable years and countless adventures, I am moving on from Blizzard Entertainment. The other week I bid a fond farewell to the orc, who is dutifully wearing his mask. I will very much miss all of my Blizzard colleagues," Kosak tweeted alongside a picture of a masked orc statue on the Blizzard campus.
The bulk of his 12 years at the studio was spent on World of Warcraft where he helmed quest and narrative design, though recent years also saw him tackling mission and narrative design on Hearthstone.
"If you follow me because of Hearthstone, no need to worry! Last week we announced a great expansion, a new mode, and new progression/rewards. Believe me when I say that’s only the beginning. Great things are in the works," continues his thread. "And, of course, Shadowlands is around the corner for World of Warcraft. I will be adventuring right alongside you. I am honored to have contributed to the Warcraft universe, and excited for what’s to come."
