Freescale Semiconductor’s Metrowerks organization plans to deliver a new version of its CodeWarrior development environment for Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc.’s (SCEI) PlayStation3 computer entertainment system. As part of the creation of this tools suite, Metrowerks intends to participate in SCEI’s tools and middleware licensing program for PlayStation 3. Metrowerks has a long track record of delivering development technologies that help developers and game publishers create content for SCEI’s computer entertainment systems. The company has offered CodeWarrior tools for every PlayStation version. Metrowerks is currently creating tools and compilers designed to help developers harness the PlayStation 3 platform’s power. The CodeWarrior tools studio is expected to include a stable compiler, and an open, extensible architecture. It enables integration with complementary technologies and facilitates collaboration between geographically distributed game title development teams.
