Microsoft has confirmed that it is in the process of reviving 'dead' Xbox Live Gamertags for use. Gamertags that were previously used may now be available for purchase, depending on whether the accompanying account is active or not. Director of programming at Xbox Live Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb stated on his blog, "Starting today, we have begun the process of making previously used and unavailable (dead) Xbox Live Gamertags available." He continued, "This process will take some time to complete, and no we can’t tell you when the Gamertag you want might be available." "If you are interested, you should check back regularly as we are reviving Gamertags daily." Changing a Gamertag costs 800 MS Points (equivalent to $10), and will not affect users' Gamerscore, achievements, friends or purchases. The Xbox Live dashboard was recently redesigned, receiving a makeover and a number of Kinect-related features. Microsoft also changed the name of Xbox Live Silver to 'Xbox Live Free'.
