Mobile Media, a producer of mobile entertainment content, has acquired mobile game developer Overloaded in an effort to expand its presence in the mobile game arena. Based in Amsterdam, Overload's stable of properties includes mobile games based on the television series Fear Factor and Big Brother, as well as mobile versions of console titles such as Xyanide, the Xbox space shooter, and Steel Dragon. The company creates games for multiple providers in several formats, including Java, Symbian, BREW, and I-mode. Prior to the acquisition, Overloaded was a subsidiary company of Endemol, which sought to sell its stake in Overloaded after changing its strategy for partnerships rather than outright ownership. Endemol plans to continue its relationship with Overloaded as a contractor following the sale to Mobile Media. "Mobile Media is committed to the future of mobile being the 4th screen for information and entertainment," commented Karsten Hauge, CEO of the Mobile Media Company AS. "We’re already starting to see the growth of new, interactive, mobile-based gaming communities through the launch of next generation networks such as 3G. Mobile is critical for the future of gaming, and mobile gaming is crucial in the promotion of new revenue streams. It is also an excellent stepping stone for Mobile Media to offer other advanced mobile content and services to customers."
