The Multiverse Network, Inc., a network of Massively Multiplayer Online Games and 3D virtual worlds, announced the Multiverse Platform, a free technology platform designed to provide independent game developers with the resources they need to enter the online game market. Using the Multiverse Platform, developers can build and bring to market MMOGs and virtual worlds. The company also today unveiled its own MMOG -- Kothuria: The World's Edge. Kothuria was designed and built in-house at Multiverse by a small part-time team of developers over a period of a few months. Multiverse has built a complete and pre-coded client-server infrastructure and tools, which are available to developers for no upfront costs. This allows developers to concentrate creating their game. The Multiverse Platform includes a Multiverse Client, allowing users to navigate within a virtual world and interact with other players; Multiverse Servers to handle the "heavy lifting" of the game; Multiverse Tools to create and change any aspect of their game; and a Multiverse Infrastructure for the necessary infrastructure services for developers to build commercial applications. Multiverse also provides developers with the Developer Marketplace, where individual specialists can buy and sell assets. Everything available through the Multiverse Developer Marketplace will be based on open standards, and thus compatible across the entire Multiverse platform. The company also offers a free starter set of assets, including a wide range of content for different genres and an actual MMOG for modification. The Multiverse Client can access any virtual world built with Multiverse technology. This enables a single distributed network of virtual worlds: the Multiverse Network. When a new developer brings a game or virtual world to the Multiverse Network, they have instant access to all the players of all the games already on the network.
