Sony has announced that a new version 4.00 firmware for its PSP handheld will be released this week, adding a new Google search engine button to its XrossMediaBar interface to "make web searches easier and convenient." Sony says the search engine functionality will be located in the XMB's 'Network' category with an 'Internet Search' icon, and will "deliver the same Google search results as when searching on www.google.com." The Search function will also include a 'history' feature to "recall of up to 20 items for more efficient browsing." Sony says the partnership with Google "demonstrates SCEA’s commitment to further enhance the mobile entertainment experience on PSP system." The only other update Sony has announced for the 4.00 firmware is "the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on a Memory Stick PRO Duo; this allows you to watch a video quickly, or slow it down to listen carefully to dialogue."
