New Research Finds Gamers More Older, More "Intense"

Jupiter Research is reporting that the demographics of gamer is shifting towards an older, more "intensive" game player -- defined as someone who plays more than 15 hours per week.

The company also said that it believes the number of high-intensity users will grow 40% by 2007, and that the most popular titles are "low-intensity puzzle and board games". Other statistics that Jupiter found: -The median age of gamers is 23 years old -61% of those surveyed cited "low-intensity puzzle and board games" as their favorite genre -One in ten online adults owns a current generation console (defined as a PS2, Xbox or Gamecube) -The overall audience of gamers across all platforms will grow 18%, with a 61% penetration by 2007. -Revenues for the PC and console games market will break the $14 billion mark in 2007, up from $11 billion this year -The number of gamers that play more than 15 hours per week will grow by 40% from 12 million to 17 million by 2007 Jupiter is releasing two reports, "Audience Benchmark: Adult Video Game Adoption, Cross-Ownership and Usage" and "Market Forecast: Assessing Growth of Games Audience and Revenue", which can be purchased on the company's web site.
