Nintendo has beat companies such as Apple, Sony and Microsoft in a new list of the world's most reputable companies, according to the Reputation Institute's Global Reputation Pulse 2009 survey. The Japan-based Mario maker appeared on the list at number six, beating out fellow first-party game makers Microsoft (ranked 30th) and Sony (126th), which unlike Nintendo, also specialize in non-video game segments. Apple ranked 52nd. The top five reputable companies on the list were Italy's chocolate maker, Ferrero, Sweden's furniture producer Ikea, U.S.' consumer product group Johnson & Johnson and Brazil's oil producer Petrobras and frozen food maker Sadia. The Global Reputation Pulse 2009 is the fourth annual survey of reputations of leading companies. The organization ranks reputations based on "admiration, trust, good feelings and overall esteem." Companies are rated by consumers in their home countries. Taking these aspects into consideration, Nintendo earned a "Global Pulse Score" of 81.63, versus 78.05 for Microsoft and 72.21 for Sony. This year's report is based on over 70,000 online interviews with consumers in 32 countries in January and February this year. The Reputation Institute said it collected over 190,000 ratings, and ranked over 1,300 companies. Nintendo was also among the top five reputable companies worldwide in specific areas: products/services, innovation, workplace, leadership and performance.
