Nintendo Domination Increases In UK Charts

All but two titles in the UK top ten this week are for Nintendo formats, with the release of Unreal Tournament III on PlayStation 3 failing to eclipse the return to availability of the Wii version of Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Games.

Nintendo’s domination of the UK top ten has begun to exceed even Japan this week, with only two titles on formats other than the Wii or Nintendo DS. The charts are lead again by Sega co-production Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Games, with the Wii version coming back into stock and re-entering the charts at number one. The Wii version of the game has twice now completely run out of stock in the UK, the first incident robbing the title of the Christmas number one spot. Total sales of the two versions, of which the Wii version accounted for 58 percent this week, also placed the title at the top of the combined formats chart. The game outsold combined sales of Call Of Duty 4, at number two, by a ratio of almost four to one. In the individual formats chart, the only non-Nintendo format titles are Devil May Cry 4 on Xbox 360 at number eight and new entry Unreal Tournament III for PlayStation 3 at number six. After a surprisingly slow start, sales of Cooking Mama 2 on Nintendo DS increased by 89 percent this week, with a move of nineteen places to number seven. There are also a total of three Touch! Generations in the top ten, with the two Brain Training (aka Brain Age) games joined by Sight Training (aka Flash Focus) at number ten and by Maths Training at number eleven. The highest new entry outside of the top ten is the Xbox 360 version of FIFA Street 3 at number twenty, with the PlayStation 3 version at number twenty-seven. A week after its initial release Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings enters the top forty for the first time at number thirty-eight.
